The mandate of the Welland Historical Museum is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret objects and archival materials that serve to illustrate the historical founding, settlement and development of Welland, Pelham and area from prehistory to present. The museum will endeavor to grow with, and for the community, providing a source of knowledge and related programs on the heritage of Welland, Pelham and area for present and future generations.
A scavenger hunt for everyone! Come and learn about the community’s past as you try to locate images and artefacts in our galleries. You’ll learn of the different businesses, people, and locations that have shaped the community all while getting to see our exhibits. Artefact Hunt is a drop-in every Thursday starting next week until August 17th. Come in anytime from 10am to 4pm to join in on this exciting program! Additionally, the program is offered in French!

The Welland Museum is having a Murder Mystery Fundraiser on April 29th at the Welland Rose City Legion. Come out for a night of dinner, entertainment, and silent auction. Tickets are $40/person or $35/person when booking a table of 8. Tickets can be book online or by phone.
The Welland Historical Museum invites submissions from leaders in our community for appointment to its Board of Management. We are looking for strong leaders with diverse backgrounds to reflect the demographics of our service area which includes both the City of Welland and the Town of Pelham. We are recruiting applicants with previous board and volunteer experience and would like to have representation from corporate, public sector and non-profit sectors. Particular skill sets include human resources, health and safety, finance, fundraising and marketing backgrounds.

Welland City Council can seize an opportunity to preserve its historic Central Fire Station and stimulate Welland’s downtown economy. The Heritage Welland committee is urging Council to convert the 1920 fire hall to a fire museum and learning centre as part of local Canada 150th celebrations.
In 1941, nineteen women met under the leadership Of Ethel Morrissey to form the University Women’s Club of Welland. In the spirit of co-operation and friendship, members continue to pursue knowledge and promote education for the improvement of the status of women and girls.
Our new exhibit, Niagara and the Great Wars,opened last week with great success. The Museum would like to thank everyone who attended the event, and especially those who made this exhibit possible. This week, we are beginning our summer hours, which allows visitors more time to visit the Museum. Feel free to visit us between 10am - 4pm Tuesday through Saturday, and Thursdays 10am - 8pm.
The Welland Museum has acquired an important Fenian Raid Medal, complete with 1870 bar. The medal is impressed Cpl. W. Ashby 44th Btn. The 44th recruited primarily from Welland County. Generously donated by an anonymous benefactor.
The Welland Public Library and the Welland Museum are joining forces to bring a night of fun to Welland. Together, they are hosting a Trivia Night on Friday, November 6th at Riverstone Event Centre. The Trivia Night will include eight rounds of trivia questions, a silent auction in support of the Library and a 50/50 draw in support of the Museum. Doors open at 6:30pm and trivia begins at 7:30pm.
Welcome back to regular updates from the Welland Museum and a newsletter that is revamped and easier to read with new logo, new colours and a new look! Just like this newsletter, print and online materials, the Museum itself has received many improvements since our last issue. A bright entry hall greets visitors coming in from King Street, painted in our signature colours of blue and orange. Follow the orange wall upstairs to reception, from where you can have a look through the renewed exhibits in our main floor galleries enhanced by new museum standard track lighting, decor and flooring, or shop for one of a kind craft items and books in our gift shop.
I participated in the final Welland Historical Museum architectural walk of the Summer. It was a fabulous walk, visiting many of the older structures in downtown Welland and learning some of the building's history & architectural style. Well worth the $5.00.

The Welland Museum will be running its second annual Heritage House Tour fundraiser on Saturday, October 24th. We hope to have one church and four –five private homes and businesses in Welland and Pelham open for Tour goers between 10 am and 4 pm that day.

The Welland Museum has just completed a four month partnership with students from the New Media Web Design Program at Niagara College. Graduating students Myles Fisher and David Grobbo have planned, developed and implemented a new website for the museum under the instruction of Mark Hardwick.
The fourth term project is a great accomplishment for the students as it has allowed them to demonstrate their skills acquired from the program, while gaining both experience and exposure in the industry.
